Jaojoby and iFani to headline Bassline Africa Day Concert

The annual concert, taking place this year on Friday 29 May, is a favourite on the local music calendar due to its diverse line-up and positive Afro-centric energy. This year, the importance of Africa Day is once again clear – with the need for unity more important than ever following the outbreak of violent xenophobia across the country. The concert celebrates the diverse music and culture of the continent in a night of positive and powerful performances. It will be headlined by one of South Africa’s hottest rappers, iFani, as well as Joajoby from Madagascar and Joana Serrat from Spain.

iFani recently made headlines as he secured gold status on the first day of the release of his second album, I Believes in Me (The 2^nd Quadrant) following an ambitious social media campaign. The Bassline Africa Day Concert will be the first show in his upcoming nationwide tour and iFani promises a massive stage show, including performances from dance group Via-K.

As part of the southern African festival circuit, the Firefest Route, the Bassline is proud to present Madagascar’s super-group Jaojoby, who will be performing shortly before their visit to the MTN Bushfire festival on the same weekend. Jaojoby, whose tour is supported by Alliance Francaise, is commonly recognised as one of the most popular bands in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean islands. The lead singer Eusèbe Jaojoby is widely referred as the “King of Salegy.”

Another Firefest Route artist to perform will be young Spanish folk singer Joana Serrat, whose tour is supported by the Spanish Consulate in South Africa. 

The live performances will be followed by a line-up of top South African DJs. Tickets are on sale for R100 at Webtickets or R120 at the door.
