Ugandan artists to be rewarded in new MTN CallerTunez Awards

Uganda’s leading telecommunication company, MTN, has launched a new award scheme that will see artists and producers of recorded quotes, jokes, skits and other sound bites rewarded for their work. Known as the ‘MTN CallerTunez Online Awards’ the new awards are all about creating opportunities for stakeholders while raising awareness about new forms of entertainment for the customers.

”MTN CallerTunez Online Awards is a platform created to recognize and reward artists and content producers with the most downloaded call-back tones on the MTN portal,” said MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer, Mapula Bodibe during the launch.

Bodibe further noted that the call-back tones market are fast becoming an alternative business model, complimenting other revenue streams like concerts and album sales and for customers, it’s a new source of entertainment.

At the end of the year, artists and customers will be invited to the unique and first ever online awards in which artists and content producers with the most cumulative call-back tones  downloads will be recognized. Artists or content producers will get up to UGX 2,500,000 ($704) in monthly rewards while customers with the most downloads will win up to UGX 1,000,000 ($282).

In the grand finale, the artists or content producers of the month on month downloads will receive an award and prize money among other gifts from the company. The categories to be recognized include;

  • Most Downloaded Zouk & Band
  • Most Downloaded RnB
  • Most Downloaded Religious
  • Most Downloaded Afro-Beat & Afro-Pop
  • Most Downloaded Dancehall & Ragga
  • Most Downloaded Reggae
  • Most Downloaded Hip-Hop
  • Most Downloaded Traditional

Other categories to be awarded are the customer of the year for the person who will have downloaded the most tones, the Content provider of the year and the MTN Holla Life Member that is created for long term customers with the most popular call-back tones.
