Nigerian R&B crooner Iyanya is set to release his third album next month, September. The album comes two years after his breakout sophomore Desire.
His first album, My Story, released after his triumph at the inaugural MTN Project Fame had the singer working primarily in the R&B genre. That album saw little success in the Nigerian market. Released 2011, the single ‘Kukere’ (and especially its video) changed all of that, propelling the singer to fame and wealth. The video popularised the etighi dance—a dance native to Cross Rivers, a state in the South-south part of Nigeria.
The following year saw a remix of the song with singer D’Banj. Kukere’s success led the singer to adjust his sound to suit the market. Thus his sophomore Desire differed considerably from My Story. Other singles like ‘Ur Waist’ followed. In 2014, his crew Made Men Group released a compilation album. Iyanya’s solo single from that album ‘Mr Oreo’ has become quite popular. As has a newer single ‘Gift’ featuring producer Don Jazzy. Iyanya has also collaborated with Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz on ‘Nakupenda’.
Although untitled, the new album will be launched 19 September. The event is set to hold at the prestigious event centre ThisDay Dome in Nigeria’s capital Abuja.
