The event was hosted by Ike’s compatriot actor John Dumelo and Nigerian singer Emma Nyra.

“I, first of all, thank the almighty God for helping me win thus amazing award,” he said to seancitygh.com. “I’m the only Ghanaian who won his category. It is a sign of great things to happen among my fellow Ghanaian musicians. I humbly dedicate the award to all Ghanaians.”

Representing the Congo in the category was Icha Kavon and Meezy Musik. Foluke represented Nigeria. Ghanaians were nominated in other categories, with rapper Sarkodie, dancehall artist Shatta Wale and singer Bisa Kdie getting nominations. Actress Joselyn Dumas was nominated as well.

Some of the winners on the night were Nigerian singer Davido, who was named International Best Male Artist and Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee, who won the female equivalent. Congolese great Awilo Longomba was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Bebe Cool won in the Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist category.

Established in 2012, the African Entertainment Awards are given to persons working in the entertainment industry who, through their work, have contributed to society.
