African music icons Kojo Antwi (Ghana), Amakye Dede (Ghana), Yvonne Chaka Chaka (South Africa), Femi Kuti (Nigeria) and 2Baba Idibia (Nigeria), Awilo Longomba (DRC), Kanda Bongoman (DRC) and Freddie Meiway (Ivory Coast) are the first inductees of the Music Legends Hall of Fame in Ghana.

Music Legends Hall of Fame inductees 2Baba, Awilo Longomba, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Femi Kuti and Kojo Antwi.

The Music Legends Hall of Fame forms part of event organiser Global Media Alliance’s (GMA’s) African Legends Night festival to honour music greats from across the continent while shining the spotlight on its rich and diverse musical cultures.

The list of inductees also includes Ghanaian artists Daddy Lumba, George Darko, Ofie Kodjoe, Ben Brako, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Samini, Nana Tuffour, Akosua Agyapong, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Rex Omar and Ofori Amponsah.

They will be featured in the African Legends Digital Museum, a key new addition to this year’s celebrations. Over the period it has run, the African Legends Night concert has hosted 20 headliners from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, DRC, Namibia and South Africa.

“We recognise the immense contribution of musicians in projecting the face of the African continent positively,” GMA CEO Ernest Boateng said about the initiative.

“Our inductees are musicians who have had an impact on our society, hence the Hall of Fame is to celebrate their achievements and major milestones in the course of their music careers.”

Meanwhile, this year, for its 10th edition, the African Legends Night will be held at the Grand Arena in the capital Accra on 2 December. An all-Ghanaian line-up comprising highlife veterans Amakye Dede and Rex Omar, Afro-pop singer Efya and dancehall act Samini has been programmed for the show.
