Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid has contributed to the soundtrack of the upcoming Marvel film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
This was revealed by American producer Metro Boomin, who is behind the project.
“Wizkid is confirmed for the @SpiderVerse soundtrack available everywhere [from] 2 June,” Metro Boomin shared on Twitter this week.
The upcoming Spider-Verse sequel follows the success of Into the Spider-Verse which was released in 2018 and grossed over $380m worldwide.
Wizkid joins several other renowned artists who have been confirmed for the film’s soundtrack, including US rapper Swae Lee, who previously collaborated with Post Malone on the soundtrack for the first instalment of the movie. Other artists featured on the soundtrack are hip hop acts Nas, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, 21 Savage, A$AP Rocky, JID, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and Lil Uzi Vert, among others.
This is not the first time that African artists have made their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In November last year, Rema, Ckay, Tems, Fireboy DML, Burna Boy, DBN Gogo, Sino Msolo, Kamo Mphela, Young Stunna and Busiswa were featured on the soundtrack album of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel of the 2018 superhero movie Black Panther.
In 2019, Wizkid was also featured on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’, taken from the singer’s The Lion King: The Gift LP, which serves as the soundtrack for Disney’s remake of the 1994 classic animation, The Lion King.
Wizkid is behind five albums, the latest, More Love, Less Ego, arriving in November 2022. He will be taking the album on the road in Europe this fall.
