Nigerian Afrobeats act Victony has announced that he will tour Europe with his debut album Stubborn starting 14 February.
The seven-city tour commences in Toulouse, France and concludes in Berlin, Germany on 1 March. On the road, Victony will also make stops in Norway, Poland, the Netherlands and Czechia.
“Europe, 2025,” the musician confirmed to his 1.3 million Instagram followers. “See you soon.”
Stubborn, released in June via Encore Recordings, boasts 14 songs, including singles like ‘Everything’ and the Asake-assisted title track.
Speaking about the LP’s title track on the eve of the album’s arrival, Victony said: “Stubborn’ inspired everything. When we were done with the session, I kept playing it. It became my favourite song at the time. I thought a collab would be interesting because it’s a new sound. I felt like it’d be interesting to have someone on it, and obviously, the melodies and the character of the song were such a perfect match for Asake. I told him: ‘This is just me reflecting on life and just being grateful, but reaffirming that I’m still on course, I’m still about what I’m about. I’ve never changed. I’m not changing for anybody, this is me, this is Victony, right?’ We had that conversation, and he was tapped in and he did his thing.”
Discussing the album with Music In Africa in August, Victony added: “When I say stubborn, people often look at this from a negative standpoint. You know, they think it’s about gangsterism or, you know, just not conforming to societal standards or just being against the law, but that’s not what it is, right? I say stubborn because I’m still that kid from way back who believed in something and saw it to the end.”
On what must change within Afrobeats, he noted: “There’s no unity in the genre. As artists, we need to come together and start figuring out a lot together. If not, I don’t know what the future holds for us.”
Victony, who began his professional music career in 2016, is also behind the Saturn (2020) and Outlaw (2022) EPs. He amassed mainstream notice in 2021 with his appearance on fellow Nigerian act Mayorkun’s ‘Holy Father’. He has scored collaborations with industry heavyweights like Burna Boy and Rema and currently enjoys a monthly listenership of over 3 million on Spotify.
