This was revealed on Monday by the French music certification organisation the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP).
Burna Boy’s 2019 album African Giant went platinum for surpassing 100 000 unit sales, while Oxlade earned diamond certification for surpassing 50 million streams in the country.
For Burna Boy, the accolade follows gold certifications in France last year for ‘Alone’ (2022) and Love, Damini as well as a platinum plaque for ‘Gbona’ (2019). The Grammy winner’s 2019 hit ‘On The Low’ previously went diamond in France.
Oxlade, on the other hand, scored platinum certification for ‘Ku Lo Sa’, which shot him to global prominence following a viral Colors Studios YouTube performance. The performance, which premiered in June 2022, has been watched more than 86 million times.
“The track ‘Ku Lo Sa’ by Oxlade is a certified diamond single,” SNEP said in an announcement. “50 000 000 equivalent streams. Congratulations!”
The track, adjudged by Rolling Stone as the second-best Afropop song of 2022, and now nearing 300 million streams on Spotify, joins the ranks of Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ and fellow Mavin Global artist Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ among recent Afrobeats songs certified diamond in France.
Meanwhile, Oxlade, who is signed to Epic Records, is gearing up for the release of his new album Oxlade From Africa.
