AKA to join Winky D and Ammara Brown at Shoko Fest in Zim

Now in its sixth edition, the three-day show will be run under the theme “Come Alive”. The event will be staged at the Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences, with the traditional ‘Peace in the Hood’ concert taking place in Chitungwiza.  

Festival director Sam Monro, better known in music circles as Cde Fatso, told Showbiz: “AKA is currently heating up the charts with his singles ‘Dreamwork’ and ‘One Time’, which debuted at number one on iTunes and continues to take over the charts in Africa and the UK.”

AKA will perform on the opening night of the event, as will Winky D.  Monro continued: “The Ninja president Winky D has been making people’s problems disappear with his catchy songs and is one of Zimbabwe’s most loved artists. His epic inaugural performance at Shoko this year is in partnership with Zambezi Magic and DStv.”

Amara Brown, who has lately made headlines with her single ‘Mukoko’, will headline Saturday night’s proceedings. More artists are billed to perform at the event and the organization is yet to reveal the names of those artists.

Shoko Festival is one of Zimbabwe’s leading international festivals, highly regarded for hosting live concerts, comedy nights, talks and discussions, as well as presentations on cutting-edge technology and new media. Each year, the event has a theme that usually calls on Harare’s beautiful people to tune in to the many voices and sounds that reverberate in the city. Some of the artists who have performed in the past include British rapper Black Twang, UK poet Deana Rodgers and Zimbabwe’s Soul Jah Love, Junior Brown and Trae Young.

This is of course not the first time that South African artists has performed at this popular event. In 2012, South African poet Thabiso Mohave, best known as Afurakan, performed and walked away with the International Poetry Slam title at Shoko Festival against Zimbabwe’s Arnold Chirimika. In 2013 AKA’s countrymen Cassper Nyovest and  Khuli Chana headlined the festival. In 2015, Nyovest returned to perform again.

Tickets are going for US$10, with students paying $5.
