Olumo Soundz release vinyl pressings for debut album United Nonsense

Originally released in 2021 through Believe International Records, the four-track project is described as a “joyous musical announcement of awareness, resistance, and faith.” 

The 12-piece band asserts that the LP serves as a challenge to the United Nations (UN), urging the global organisation to take more substantial actions to foster peace worldwide.

Olumo Soundz emphasised in a statement that while the UN’s purpose is to unite nations for peaceful coexistence, the current state of global affairs, marked by wars and turmoil, renders the album’s title fitting. 

“The purpose of the UN is to unite the world for all nations to co-exist peacefully,” a statement reads. “But with all the wars and horrible things happening in the world, we call it ‘United Nonsense’.”

Recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project includes tracks like ‘Chasin’, which delves into the pursuit of materialism in daily human activities, highlighting the tendency to lose sight of the present.

Another track, ‘Sunday Jump’, encourages listeners to slow down, relax, and savour life’s moments, while ‘Wahala Dey Come’, meaning trouble is imminent, addresses oppression and injustice. 

The band’s lyrics and messages draw strong inspiration from Fela Kuti, the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, emphasising themes of justice, oppression, and human rights. Nils Lidman, the band’s saxophonist, underscores the enduring relevance of Fela’s messages, stressing their significance in contemporary global affairs.

Positive Oluwo, the band’s lyricist and vocalist from Nigeria also highlighted Fela’s ongoing impact on Nigerian politics, culture, and global affairs. “The icon is not at all forgotten at home,” he said. “He is still relevant in Nigerian politics and culture as well as in global affairs”.
