Open call: Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival 2024 in Malawi

Music Crossroads Malawi is inviting musicians, bands and performers around the world to submit applications for Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival at Chingalire Cultural Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi, on 25 and 26 May 2024.

The festival, which will run under the theme, Freedom of Expression, is designed for artists who specialise in traditional folk, fusion, world, jazz or any genre that embraces cultural influences.

Submission guidelines

  • Open to solo artists, bands and performers of all cultural backgrounds.
  • Showcase music rooted in traditional, ethnic or folk influences.
  • Participants should submit a demo or link to their live performance video highlighting their ethno music style.
  • Applicants should include a brief biography and description of how their music aligns with the festival theme.

Submission process

  • Email the application to pakhonde.festival@music-crossroads.net with the subject line ‘Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival Submission’.
  • Artists should include a link to their performance video, artist biography and description of their ethno music style.
  • Applications should be sent before 8 April.
  • Accepted artists will be notified on 26 April.
