South African producer DJ Maphorisa is billed to perform at Passport Experience (PXP) Festival at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta in the USA on Saturday 13 August.
Maphorisa will join top musicians Senegalese-American star Akon, Shaggy and local rapper Rich Homie Quan at what is dubbed “the first truly international music festival”. The event aims to unite American, Caribbean, European, Latino and African music fans together for a day under one sun. It will feature artists from diverse music genres such as Afrobeat, reggae and hip-hop.
The event will be hosted by Akon and proceeds will go towards his Akon Lighting Africa initiative. In 2015, some tickets proceeds were channeled towards the Akon Lighting Africa Solar Academy, which aims to provide electricity to 600 million homes in 14 countries. The organizers plan to maintain the practice at all Passport Experience Festivals moving forward.
DJ Maphorisa is not new on the international arena. In May this year he co-produced Drake’s single ‘One Dance’, which features Nigerian star Wizkid and Kyla.
