MTN Bushfire has announced the beneficiaries who will benefit from a 262 455 lilangeni (about $14 300) sponsorship in eSwatini.
The sponsorship is a collective effort inspired by MTN Bushfire’s Bring Your Fire call to action to make a positive difference in the country’s communities. The beneficiaries are Young Heroes, boMake Rural Projects and the newly established Malandela’s Legacy Fund.
The proceeds of the sponsorships will be primarily used in the Lobamba Lomdzala constituency in which House On Fire, the venue for the MTN Bushfire festival, is located. Young Heroes director Khulekani Magongo received a cheque worth 132 615 lilangeni from MTN Bushfire, while boMake director Nozipho Sasha Thorne was presented with 89 840 lilangeni. Indvuna Fakudze received 40 000 lilangeni on behalf of the Malandela’s Legacy Fund
“From the onset of MTN Bushfire, we have shared the belief that we all have to play a more conscious and active role in developing and supporting the communities and environments within which we live,” MTN Bushfire festival creative director Jiggs Thorne said.
“MTN Bushfire’s call to action, Bring Your Fire, leverages the transformational power of the arts to inspire collective action on the social and environmental challenges of our time.”
Lobamba Lomdzala constituency MP and MTN Bushfire board chairman Marwick Khumalo praised the initiative for giving back to fellow Swazis.
Other speakers at the cheque handover ceremony also included MTN eSwatini CEO Sibusiso Nhleko and members of the Lobamba Lomdzala community, who spoke about how much the support meant to them.
