Fresh from his recent collaboration with Tanzanian heavyweight Diamond Platnumz, he is preparing for a series of gigs in the USA and Canada between 29 July and 6 August, after which he returns to Zimbabwe to launch his hotly anticipated new album, Mdhara Vachauya on Friday 12 August.

Confirmed dates and venues for the American tour are as follows:

  • 29 July: Swayz Restaurant – Dallas, Texas, US
  • 30 July: The Studio – Sterling, Virginia, US
  • 31 July: The Caribbean Village – Indianapolis, Indiana US
  • 5 August: Revival Bar – Toronto, Canada

The upcoming tour comes not long after Prayzah became the first Zimbabwean musician to tour China in late 2015. Earlier this year he cemented his reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s biggest stars by taking home numerous awards at both the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMAs) and the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA). In May he also staged successful shows in neighbouring Botswana as well as in Perth, Australia.

Diamond collab and new album

In late June, Jah Prayzah was in Tanzania to work with celebrated singer Diamond Platnumz. The resulting song, titled ‘Watora Mari’, was composed in two languages; with Diamond singing in Swahili and Jah Prayzah in Shona.

Commenting on the collaboration via his website, Jah Prayzah said the song is just a happy song, a party song which is meant to simply entertain. He said he hopes the song will be the beginning more musical collabrations between the two countries.

Jah Prayzah expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with one of continent ’s biggest artists, adding that he looks up to Diamond and had long wanted to work with him. “Despite him being one of the biggest artists in Africa at the moment, Diamond is very humble and passionate about what he does. I was just a fan of his, watching and listening from a distance. Now my dreams have come true as I have managed not to just meet him, but to have the privilege of working with him on what we both have a passion for: music,” he said.

Following the US tour Jah Prayzah will return to Zimbabwe, where he is set to launch his new album, Mdhara Vachauya, in Harare on Friday 12 August alongside Oliver Mtukudzi, Gary and Willom Tight and Sam Dondo. He is also expected to stage a launch concert in Bulawayo.
