Leriq, in-house producer for Nigerian record label Aristokrat Records, has signed a deal with RCA, the flagship record label of Sony Music Entertainment. The deal facilitates a release of his forthcoming album The Lost Sounds through the US-owned label and follows reports of a push back in release date.
Initially scheduled for June, The Lost Sounds release date was pushed back to August by Aristokrat Records for undisclosed reasons. ‘We would like to apologize to all Leriq/Aristokrat fans for the delay,’ the label said in an earlier statement. ‘And want to assure you that it will be worth the wait.’
Thus far it is unclear if there is a connection between the rescheduled release date and the Sony deal. But fans have been treated to a few singles from the producer, culminating in the January 2015 release of ‘Say You Love Me’ featuring singer Wizkid. Other artists expected to feature on The Lost Sounds include, South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, Nigerian rappers Naeto C and Phyno and singers Nneka and Wande Coal.
A statement stated simply: ‘Sony Music Entertainment Africa is proud to announce they have signed an exclusive deal with Aristokrat Records to release Leriq’s debut album The Lost Sounds!’
