Music Society of Nigeria set for ‘New Horizons’

Although a sequel to the 2015 edition of the New Horizons series of concerts, the line-up of headlining performing musicians retains only composer and kora player Tunde Jegede, who is the Artistic Director of the Music Society of Nigeria. Since occupying the position, Jegede has blended the western conception of classical music with the African idea of same. To that end, the society has seen events with notable fusions included in its programme calendar.

According to the event’s official statement, “New Horizons: New Worlds takes us on a journey from the classical world of the baroque to the traditional music of contemporary Nigeria and South America.

“Featuring the international singer Diana Baroni, orginally from Argentina, with her haunting and evocative voice, and Nigeria’s foremost opera soprano, Ranti Ihimoyan, this concert is a meeting point between worlds and traditions. The program features Tunde Jegede, a 21^st century renaissance man with the celebrated MUSON Ensemble and traditional Sakara musicians.”
