Ghanaian saxophonist Steve Bedi will headline the first edition of the Jazzin’ Africa Festival, set to take place on 25 October at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. The event follows Bedi’s recent performance at South Africa’s Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg.

Under the theme Celebrating African Jazz: Preserving the Past, Enriching the Present, Inspiring the Future, the festival will feature an international line-up of artists including Tom Braxton (US), Ayi Solomon (Denmark/Ghana), Albino Mbie (Mozambique/US) and Dudu Makhoba (South Africa).

The festival aims to showcase African jazz in all its forms, honouring its roots while embracing its evolving sound. Founded in 2024 by Bedi, the event is positioned as a platform to celebrate Africa’s jazz heritage and its influence on global music.

In a statement, Bedi described Jazzin’ Africa as “a cultural movement uniting legendary performers, emerging talents, and jazz lovers from around the world to experience the soulful marriage of tradition and innovation.”

He added that the festival seeks to connect generations and cultures through music. “From the call of the saxophone to the heartbeat of African percussion, every note tells a story, bridging generations, cultures, and continents,” Bedi said.

Looking ahead, Bedi expressed hopes that the festival will grow into a key event on the international jazz calendar. “As it develops, Jazzin’ Africa will nurture talent, foster cultural pride, and share the brilliance of African artistry with the world,” he said.

The Jazzin’ Africa Festival is expected to become a new platform for collaboration among African and global musicians while celebrating the continent’s enduring contribution to jazz.
