South African musician Thandiswa Mazwai will perform at the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 30 November.
Mazwai’s concert is presented by Bassline Live. Previous artists who have performed as part of the Bassline Live series include Lira, The Soil, Simphiwe Dana, Freshlyground and Vusi Nova.
“What I love most about performing live is how unpredictable it is and just how much a great audience can heighten the experience of the music,” the SAMA award-winning musician said ahead of her upcoming performance.
“Improvisation is an important part of live performance because it speaks to sounds being created here and now. With the right musicians on stage, live performances can be transcendental. The people can expect more of that. I am always trying to find new ways to look at the music and its performance.”
Mazwai has been performing around the world recently and wants to end the year with a home performace.
“I’m really excited to be back at the Lyric Theatre with my Bassline family. We look forward to creating sacred spaces, and allowing music to do its divine work,” she said.
“The last few months have been packed with travel as I try to build bridges to other lands. We played Afropunk in Brooklyn after headlining it twice in Jozi. Then we went back to NYC for the Carnegie Hall Citywide Festival.”
Lyric Theatre promotions and events manager Meshalin Naidoo said: “The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City is super proud to have been part of the amazing and successful star-studded Bassline Live series for 2019. We look forward to partnering with Bassline for 2020!”
The show starts at 8pm and tickets to the event can be purchased here.
