South African artist Moonchild Sanelly has released a new single and video titled ‘Yebo Teacher’. The song is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
‘Yebo Teacher’ follows the singer’s 2020 Nüdes EP. It was released through Gallo Record Company and Transgressive Records, and its attending video was directed by Katya Abedian Rawhani.
“‘Yebo Teacher’ is about putting the work in, not just in school but in life,” Moonchild Sanelly said. “My analogy of a teacher talking to her students is simple. It’s about showing people that during your time on earth, when you take on a task, you must finish it. It’s about completion and effort. I’m asking all age groups, ‘Have you done your homework? Are you working hard to get to the level you want to be at in life?’
“As the president of the female orgasm, I am checking if people are doing their homework on their own sensuality. As an artist, I’m asking if you are doing your truest, most important work. As a business owner, I am asking if you are working to the best level you can? So listen to your teacher, take this song, take this lesson and carry it through your life.”
Moonchild Sanelly’s iconic style and liberal approach to female sexual empowerment has earned her collaborations with Beyoncé, Gorillaz, Diplo and Wizkid. She has also worked with top South African artists such as DJ Maphorisa, Sho Madjozi and Thandiswa Mazwai, among others. The electropop artist began making waves in Durban and later moved to Johannesburg to pursue a music career. Her award-winning album Rabualpha has catapulted her career onto the global scene with the artist performing at international festivals such as SXSW (US) and Primavera Sound (Spain).
