One of Africa's hottest talents at the moment, Wizkid's time in the spotlight continues. The Nigerian star will be headlining a concert at the Barclay’s Centre in New York City, USA on 22 July.
Named the One Africa Music Festival, the concert will also feature performances by Wizkid’s Nigerian compatriots Tiwa Savage, rival and friend Davido, and highlife man Flavour. Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, as well as R2Bees, Efya and Stonebwoy from Ghana will also take to the stage.
“About to make history,” Wizkid tweeted recently about the upcoming event. “Listen! Young Pablo not here for joke ting! It’s game time!” He added later: “Full line up soon come! I’m coming with everybody!”
The concert is sponsored by Upfront and Personal Event Management Company. It will be hosted by Wizkid’s former label head Banky W.
The concert comes just after Wizkid received credit and a vocal spot on Views, the new album by Canadian star Drake. The artists worked together on the single ‘One Dance’.
Wizkid recently signed both R2Bees and Efya to his StarBoy Entertainment label, as announced during the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. He is currently working on his follow up to 2014’s Ayo and his massive single ‘Ojuelegba‘, which enjoyed global recognition. Late last year he postponed the release of his latest album upon attending a concert given by 2Face Idibia (now known as 2Baba). The album is expected to have international guest spots, likely to be filled by the likes of Chris Brown and Jidenna. Wizkid was in Malaysia earlier this month to headline the African Music Concert in Kuala Lumpur on 14 May. He has also just been nominated for a BET International Award.
Tickets to the One Africa Festival in New York went on sale from 24 May via Ticketmaster.
