Music and photography will converge atop the Goethe Institut offices in Lagos on 26 October.
Fotoparty Lagos uses visual imagery (photography and video art), music and entertainment and fun to rally the public, lovers of photography/video art and other fun seekers to the City Hall rooftop in Lagos Island.
The project is one more art event in a city that also hosts the Iwaya Community Arts Festival, Lagos Photo, Open Range Triennial and the Lagos Biennial.
Fotoparty, says chief organisers Nlele Institute, “adds to the growing cultural sensibility of the Marina district [in Lagos] presently undergoing regeneration and evolving as the city’s main art and culture hotspot.”
A Pan-African establishment, the Nlele Institute is committed to "the discovery, development and exposure of raw photography talents in Nigeria and other parts of Africa; reposition them to harness their talents to become world-class practitioners through exposure to wide range of visual learning processes and provide them the opportunities for visibility in both local and international photography exhibitions, festivals and biennials."
Fotoparty, which held its first music and photography meet in 2015, “has resulted in a community (re) engagement and networking, allowing freedom of expression, conviviality and providing the artists with an alternative platform to show their works.” The music interlude will be provided by DJ Afrologic, the soul act JazzZ and folk artist SinmiJay.
For this edition, there will be a focus on the Nlele Institute’s 2018 mentees and their exhibition I Be Person I No Be Number, which is currently been exhibited at the John & June Allcott Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.
Fotoparty Lagos is presented by the Nlele Institute and Video Art Network (VAN) Lagos in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Nigeria, DJ Afrologic and Nothing To Do In Lagos.
