Deezer introduced this week a Shows tab that gives users direct access to podcasts, radio and non-music audio content.

Deezer vice-president for content and productions Frederic Antelme.

The feature, which only available on the iOS app for the time being, enables users to quickly navigate to podcasts, radio and other content.

Users can easily find the Shows tab on the main options bar. The feature has more than 15 channels that cover categories such as comedy, society and culture, fiction, music podcasts and education.

There will also be additional sub-categories and niche subjects like self-help, parenthood, podcasts for kids, inspirational women, entrepreneurs and testimonials.

“As much as we all love music, there are times when we just want to hear a funny podcast or binge on a crime series,” Deezer vice-president content and productions Frederic Antelme said.

“Now our Shows feature makes it easier than ever for our users to find the content they love. We provide the best local and global podcasts, fresh original productions and radio channels tailored for our users.”

The feature includes Deezer Originals, custom-made local podcasts like Rap ist Kampfsport in Germany, L’Heure de Gloire in France and Stereo Falante in Brazil – all of which are downloadable.

Podcasts for You, which is based on the user's listening history and preferences, will make personalised recommendations similar to Deezer’s curated music content.

Categories are sorted by topic and users can easily browse the library by swiping left to right, while paying and non-paying subscribers will have the option to add content directly to their personal library.

Additionally, radio fans can navigate stations around the world including the US, UK, France, Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands.

This feature could be aimed at current users to avoid splitting their attention between Deezer and other non-music apps.

Deezer is bolstering its capabilities with the new feature after reporting a 250% growth in podcast usage on its platform since 2017.
