The South African Roadies Association (SARA) will host the fourth edition of the Live Event Technical and Production Conference (LETPC) in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 17 to 19 May.
The event is geared towards bringing together professionals in the technical, production and educational fields from across the continent and the world.
“LETPC 2018 will feature a range of international speakers from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa,” the association said in a statement.
“The event is intended to expose the South African live events, technical and production sectors and practitioners as well as the best practices occurring across Africa and the world.”
Some objectives specific to South Africa that have been established at previous LETPCs include:
- The need to upgrade technical and production skills qualifications and standards.
- Discussing the enhancement of technical and production vocational training and education with a view to formulating a sector plan for the future.
- Promotion and development of sustainable and competitive entrepreneurs and small businesses in the technical and production sector to contribute to job creation and economic growth.
Qualified professionals at the conference will discuss topics such as production, event management, technical advances as well as health and safety.
“LETPC 2018 will be an exciting, educational, informative and dynamic experience for all who attend,” SARA said.
SARA was founded in 1992 by Freddie Nyathela, who felt there was a need to fill a gap in skills development of the production and technical industries in South Africa. The association has grown to offer training and career development in the aforementioned industries.
Many students who have taken part in SARA training programmes have been able to open their own businesses. The training programme includes live sound, lighting, staging, backline, audiovisual and production.
