Music In Africa to host mentorship workshop for musicians in DRC

From 3 to 5 September 2015 Music In Africa (www.musicinafrica.net) in partnership with the Goethe-Institut will host a workshop for musicians in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 3-day workshop, titled Steps To A Professional Music Career is aimed at musicians, particularly up-and-coming musicians who wish to learn key aspects of the business to improve their careers. The workshop will take place at the Goethe-Institut liaison office in Kinshasa.

The workshop will offer a mix of theory and practical exercises covering topics such as What Does It Mean To Be A Musician, Starting A Music Project From Start To Finish, Marketing And Social Media, The Commercialisation Of Music In DRC And Africa, Intellectual Property and Useful Tools For Musicians. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Music In Africa portal and how to use it to navigate the industry. Each participant will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop. A list of the trainers including established musicians, media professionals and marketing experts, will be announced soon.

The workshop is in line with Music In Africa’s vision to support the African music sector through the exchange of information and skills. Music In Africa ​​is a pan-African initiative supported by the Siemens Foundation and the Goethe-Institut.

To participate in the workshop you have:

  • to be a musician based in the DRC, 
  • to have a music career not longer than 5 years 
  • to have recorded at least one song or demo.

The application process is done online here. The deadline for submission of applications is 9 August 2015. Only 20 candidates will be selected to participate in the workshop.

Selected participants will be notified via email and the list will be published on our website www.musicinafrica.net
