Shatta Wale in 2015: 100 songs and 30 billion cedis

In an interview carried by the Ghanaian media, he said the year was great for his music and person. “God has been good to me in 2015,” he said speaking on the show Hitz Gallery. “I made lots of money…can’t really count but I made over 30 billion old Ghana cedis.” [about $780,000 dollars—as the Ghanaian currency was redenominated in 2007.]

Within the same year, Shatta Wale claimed he released almost a hundred singles. In the new year, Shatta Wale who toured Miami in the US last year, as well as parts of Europe including Germany, Italy and Sweden, says he is looking at starting up Shatta TV, a television station run from his home country Ghana.

“I think the youth needs more channels to educate and entertain them since some of these young folks look up to me,” he said last year about the proposed station.

Already 2016 has started well for the artist. At the Glo-CAF Awards, which held 7 January in Ghana’s Anglophone neighbour Nigeria, Shatta Wale gave a well-received performance of his song ‘Reality’. Other artists who performed on the award night were: Nigerian acts Korede Bello, D’Banj; Moroccan Ahmed Soultan; and Malian great Salif Keita.

“Apart from meeting other artists and talking about collabs, the money too was good,” Shatta Wale said in an interview with Adom FM after the ceremony.

“I got 40,000 dollars. Let me call it grand. I made 40,000 grand. When you are paid well like that, you respect what goes on because they work professionally.”
