Jointly organised by Fantasy Entertainment, Showbiz Africa and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Ghana Music Week-UK has been launched at the Ghana High Commission in London on 25 August. The launch was attended by several media organisations.

“After four years of organizing GMW in Ghana,” said Leslie Quaynor, CEO of Fantasy Entertainment, “the team moved into achieving another of its key goals of using the platform to market Ghanaian music & tourism to the world.”

The UK edition of the Ghana Music Week follows an introduction of the same event to the US in 2015. “As a result of GMW-US,” said Quaynor, “over 187 guests from the U.S and eight Foreign Missions in Ghana participated in the 2016 GMW in March this year. This big impact within a short period influenced a strong case to push an agenda for an even wider reach, hence the decision for GMW-UK.”

As with the US edition, a concert, scheduled for 21 October, will take place at the GMW-UK. Artists expected to perform include Stonebwoy, Amakye Dede, and EL, the big winner at the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Other attractions include a presentation delivered by DJ Abrantee. Titled, ‘Story of GH Music’, the presentation will cover Ghana’s traditional music history, the contemporary forms of its music, and the country’s dances.

Speaking about the forthcoming event, DJ Abrantee said: “I am truly honoured and proud to be part of what will be an historical event that will not only unite Ghanaians in the UK, but also celebrate the great works of some of our biggest stars.”

GMW-UK is being managed by ABM with support from Akwaaba UK and Base Group. Tickets go on sale at the O2 Box Office from 9 September.
