A multicultural line-up of gospel artists is expected for the annual Pamoja Festival at Karera Beach in Burundi’s capital Bujumbura on 4 August.
Nigerian reggae-dancehall artist Agent Snypa will headline the festival. Other acts outside of Burundi include Uganda’s Holy Keane and hype man Paul Salah.
Local acts set to perform are SMS, Victorious Team, MTC, Jiji7, Fofo Favie, Prince Tuyombe, Landry Perkrin, Fullife, Real Jesus, Pechie & Fleury, Gibson King, Afro Talent Band and God’s Believers.
The day will also see performances by local dance groups 257bboys, BKM, TH4C and Abirabure.
Fofo Favie told Music In Africa that the interaction between local and international artists had encouraged artists to up their game in terms of branding, production and live performance.
“Pamoja is an event that gathers people of all ages and ethnicity,” Fofo Favie, who won the Video of the Year and Best Female Artist awards at the 2018 Pamoja Awards, said.
“Performing at Pamoja Festival has helped me with networking opportunities with artists from other regions. This has helped me a lot in promoting my music. I am still learning a lot about the music industry and how to build an effective career.”
The singer has played Pamoja Festival on a number of occasions and says that the event has been good for her career in the East African region.
“From this event, my career went to another level. I have worked with a youth-led organisation called Spears Connect Group, which wanted to partner with me for the CoachEpreneurship programme. I have also been to Rwanda for youth mentorship workshops,” she said.
