Call for applications: Artist residency in Taiwan

Tsung-Yeh Art and Culture Centre is accepting applications for its 2020 Artists-in-Residence (AIR) programme in Tainan, Taiwan. The programme will run under the theme Site-Specific Art.
The Tsung-Yeh Art and Culture Centre is a governmental institute operated by the Tainan city cultural affairs bureau and has since 2001 provided a platform for artists to exchange ideas and exhibit their artworks.
“Through providing the working space and encouraging resident artists to communicate with the locals, the organisers hope to promote this historical site not simply as a place for exhibitions but rather an important gathering site for international arts and artists,” the call reads.
During the residency, the selected applicants will be required to provide a presentation as either a performance or an exhibition. Participants will also organise cultural events and activities to interact with the local community.
Interested participants can apply for either of the following residencies:
- 3 February to 15 May 2020.
- 18 May to 14 August 2020.
- 17 August to 20 November 2020.
The application deadline for 15 September 2019 (11.59pm Taiwan time).
Eligibility
The Tsung-Yeh Art and Culture Centre accepts applications from local and international artists that explore:
- Performance art.
- Interdisciplinary art.
- Visual art.
Requirements
Interested participants should be able to communicate in English or Chinese.
The centre requires applicants to include the following in the application form:
- Personal information.
- A letter of recommendation from an artist, curator, institute director, researcher or organisational professional. The title and full name of the recommender should be clear and the letter should be signed personally or attached as a signature file.
- A resident plan.
Selected applicant will be required to cater for their travel expenses. Tsung-Yeh Art and Culture Centre will provide the following:
- Free accommodation and studio space.
- A modest stipend or honorarium of about $1 000 a month
- A modest project and presentation budget of about $3 200.
- Administration support.
