Burna Boy can now be confirmed to be hitting the big time after the Nigerian Afrobeats star performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the US yesterday.

The talk show is one of the most popular late-night TV programmes in the US. According to official stats, the show enjoys a total viewership of more than 2 million viewers, which means that Burna Boy’s exposure in just one night could be more than all his live performances in one year put together.

Burna Boy’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance is part of Apple Music’s Up Next programme, which is geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising star talent. The Nigerian artist was the only African included on the platform in July, which also featured J Balvin (Colombia), Octavian (UK/France), Maisie Peters (UK), King Princess (US), Khalid (US) and Tenille (Canada).

“I’m super excited to be part of the Apple Music Up Next campaign,” Burna Boy said after he was announced as an Up Next artist. “Apple continuously comes up with new initiatives to support artists globally and push the African culture. It’s an honour to be a part of this and with my African Giant album coming out soon, the timing is perfect.”

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! Burn Boy performed ‘Anybody’ with his six-piece live band amid a studio set made of beach sand, straw umbrellas, palm trees and a kitschy sunset backdrop.
