Niniola has released her latest single ‘Fantasy’ featuring Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti.
The Nigerian singer-songwriter fuses her trademark vocals and Afro-house style with the distinctive saxophone sound of the four-time Grammy nominee.
Produced by Kel-P, who worked on Burna Boy’s African Giant album, ‘Fantasy’ is a collaboration of two acclaimed artists on the international music scene and provides a unique take on Afro-house culture.
The single is off Niniola’s upcoming sophomore album and could become a favourite on dancefloors in Nigeria and abroad. The songstress describes the collaboration with the Afrobeat scion as a “dream come true”.
“Femi Kuti is a legend in every sense of the word. We got into the studio and he gave us more than we could have imagined,” she says.
Niniola is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most successful female musicians. Hits such as ‘Maradona’ and ‘Boda Sodiq’ have won her glowing endorsements from big international stars like Drake and Timbaland. Beyoncé also caught the Niniola wave by borrowing from ‘Maradona’ to compose ‘Find Your Way Back’ off the Grammy-nominated project The Lion King: The Gift. Niniola’s run of hits continued through 2018 with singles ‘Bana’ and ‘Designer’. ‘Boda Sodiq’ was released the following year.
‘Maradona’, from her 2017 debut album This Is Me, became hugely popular in South Africa, making her one of the few Nigerian artist to break into the country. Niniola is the sister of well-known Nigerian musician Teni.
