Boomplay partners with Telkom Kenya to offer ‘affordable streaming’

Through a new streaming package, Telkom Kenya’s users can now access Boomplay’s extensive music catalogue for as low as Ksh299 ($2.50) a month.

The offer will also give Telkom subscribers access to ad-free music and unrestricted downloads by homegrown artists such as Otile Brown, Nadia Mukami, Khaligraph Jones and Nikita Kering, as well as international artists whose music is available on the platform.

“This partnership is a great step in our journey to ensuring that music is more affordable and accessible to users across the country,” Boomplay East Africa managing director Martha Huro said.

“With millions of subscribers on their platform, Telkom offers the ideal opportunity to enhance our vision of ensuring the African music ecosystem unlocks its full potential.”

The streaming package has three options: a daily offer of Ksh49, a weekly offer of Ksh159 and a monthly subscription going for Ksh299. The option selected will be charged from the subscriber’s airtime.

Telkom Kenya marketing director Eric Achola said strategic partnerships such as this would help open up new possibilities for the content industry.

“With increased commoditisation of the internet, content is king and we are looking at leveraging our mobile data network to give our customers an unrivalled experience.

“This tie-up allows for growth and subscriber retention for both partners through affordable data by Telkom and new content on demand from Boomplay,” he said.

This is Boomplay’s first partnership with a telco in Kenya.
