South African Afropop singer and songwriter Asa M has officially released her new single ‘One Night In Cape Town’ featuring fellow local rapper Nadia Nakai. The song is available on all major streaming platforms.

The collaboration comes after Asah M’s shortlist as one of five finalists in the Russian Bear Ultimate Competition announced in March. The initiative was intended to provide young, emerging creatives with the opportunity to collaborate with Nadia Nakai and Blaq Diamond. The track was produced by PLXYGRND Productions, and took nearly two years to complete.

Commenting on her new single, Asah M said: “I have always dreamt of going to Cape Town so that idea inspired me to write this song. It was a great honour to do this collaboration with Nadia Nakai. The experience of being in the studio and learning from her was great.”

‘One Night In Cape Town’ takes the listener through Asah M’s journey in the city. It fuses various pop idioms over a mid-paced beat and prominent amapiano basslines, while Nadia Nakai delivers succinct head-bopping verses filled with lyrical and sonic twists.

The new single follows ‘Sophumelela’ and her breakthrough song ‘Fak’imali’ released in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

Born Asanda Masawe, Asah M is widely known for using her craft to empower women in the music industry and entertainment spaces. The musician began her career writing poetry, later fusing it with her passion for songwriting.
