South African house musician Holly Rey has released a new single titled ‘25 To Life’ featuring Kenyan artist, producer and DJ Blinky Bill.
The new track, available for streaming and download across all major streaming platforms, is off Holly Rey’s new EP 3AM Part 1.
Holly Rey says that when she completed the vocal production on the track, she wanted to feature an artist who would bring the right East African Afro-house vibe to the song, and Blinky Bill fit the bill.
“The two artists came together to create a pan-African single that hits the sweet spot and is guaranteed to create waves across the African continent and beyond,” a release statement reads.
Blinky Bill himself has a talent for creating distinctive collaborative efforts, having worked with and produced songs featuring Nneka, Goldlink, Sampa the Great and Muthoni Drummer Queen, among others.
Born Holly Wasserfall in 1996 in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal, Holly Rey began her musical career at an early age. Her 2018 single ‘Deeper’ won the Record of the Year Award at the 2019 South African Music Awards.
Blinky Bill, meanwhile, is also one-fourth of Kenyan electronic music and arts collective Just a Band. He is set to release his new album We Cut Keys 2 later in 2023, with critics predicting the artist to likely continue his tradition of pushing artistic boundaries as on his previous solo albums We Cut Keys While You Wait and Everyone’s Just Winging It And Other Fly Tales.
