Botswanan folk musician Thuntsha Dithole has announced that her fifth album Mambo will be released on 31 October, followed by official video unveiling on 28 December. The album will be available throughout Africa from January 2024.
‘Mambo’ is also the title track of the eight-song album. The word mambo is a Swahili greeting that is used across the East African region.
“‘Mambo’ is an appreciation song to the people of Tanzania and fellow Africans, as well as to the organisers of ACCES music conference who trusted me and gave me chance to make a contribution regarding the transformation of the creative industries in continent during last year’s event in Dar es Salaam,” Dithole said.
“I was inspired to compose and write this song due to the hospitality I enjoyed in Tanzania, which made me feel at home and find purpose in living. I was feeling hurt emotionally but I managed to identify my real family and network.”
She added: “I still have good memories of how artists were geared to transform the continent through ACCES collaborations. A big appreciation to the ACCES team and all relevant stakeholders for caring about the African creatives.”
