Cape Town-based singer and songwriter Mila Smith has released a new single, ‘The Adults Are Talking’, marking a new chapter in her musical evolution. The track is the lead single from her upcoming debut album, set for release in late August.
At just 20 years old, Smith strives to carve a distinct path in the South African music scene. Her latest release sees her embrace a pop punk sound, blending fierce energy, sharp lyricism, and soaring vocals into what she describes as a “rebellious anthem.”
The ‘Adults Are Talking’ takes aim at immature behaviour and hypocrisy, with biting lyrics and aggressive hooks that reflect Smith’s unapologetic voice. The song signals a confident departure from her earlier work, and offers a taste of what’s to come in her upcoming album.
The debut album will feature a range of styles, from punchy punk-infused tracks to stripped-back acoustic numbers. Smith describes the project as “coordinated chaos”, a reflection of her growth and versatility as both a writer and performer.
Smith first gained attention with her 2021 debut single ‘Liars and Fakes’, followed by her critically acclaimed debut EP You Need Therapy. In 2024, she earned a South African Music Award (SAMA) nomination for Best Pop Album, solidifying her status as one of the country’s most promising young artists.
The new single is available for streaming and download here.
