Inspired by the spontaneous lyric “You be my powerbank, you charge my battery full,” ‘Powerbank’ reimagines affection as something steady and restorative. It’s a song that captures the warmth of emotional support, delivered through Tekno’s signature fusion of Afrobeats, R&B and pop sensibilities.
The music video, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kemz (known for work with Shallipopi and Tion Wayne), takes the theme further, casting Nollywood favourite Regina Daniels as Tekno’s on-screen love interest. Filmed in Abuja with a strong Nollywood aesthetic, the visuals combine intimacy with playful drama, including mischievous banter, romantic tension and a high-energy car chase, delivering both emotional charm and cinematic flair.
The release follows the viral success of Tekno’s previous single ‘Alhaji’, which has already garnered over 10 million streams and 30 000 user-generated videos on TikTok. ‘Powerbank’ arrives via Tekno’s joint venture between Cartel Music and emPawa Africa, and signals what the artist calls his “most intentional era yet” as 2025 enters its second half.
Known for global hits such as ‘Pana’, ‘Skeletun’, ‘Wayo’, and ‘Buga’, Tekno continues to cement his place as one of Afrobeats’ most enduring hitmakers. Over the past year alone, he has delivered a string of successful releases, including ‘Jericho’ and ‘Pounds & Dollars’.
With over three billion global streams and a reputation for crafting genre-defining hits, Tekno remains a vital force in the international music scene. His production and songwriting credits include Davido’s ‘If’ and ‘Swae Lee’ and Drake’s ‘Won’t Be Late’, both of which have earned RIAA Gold certification. He has also collaborated with major international artists including Beyoncé, Ciara and Fally Ipupa.
A recipient of two Headies Awards, an MTV Africa Music Award, and a BET Award nomination, Tekno continues to push the boundaries of African pop music, with ‘Powerbank’ standing as the latest testament to his creativity, wit and cross-cultural appeal.
