Call for applications: 2020 Pan-African Creative Exchange in SA

PACE is intended for African artists to network and share their work with national and international arts presenters and producers. PACE aims to grow in interdisciplinary scope and welcomes submissions from other disciplines as well, such as visual art, experimental and live art, fashion, arts and craft, film, digital art and culinary art.

Who should apply?

The exchange programme is intended for:

• Artists based on the Africa continent.
• Artists from the African diaspora.
• Artists whose work is responding to the contemporary African space.
• Though there will be limited presentation slots available for these artists, PACE is interested in connecting the full ecology of African art/culture and welcomes arts professionals from African descent based outside of Africa.

Submissions

Interested creatives should apply here. All artists and companies wishing to take part in PACE must read the guidelines.

The application deadline is 29 August.

If chosen to be part of PACE, you or your company will be given one slot to present your work in one of three strands: Tour Ready and Works in Progress & Pitch Sessions.

Is your work ready to tour?

If your work is finished and you are looking for venues to show it in, this is the strand for you. Your showcase should be no longer than 60 minutes and should be an extract performed by professional artists and companies.

Tour Ready means that as a company or artist, you have experience of touring and have a product that is artistically and technically ready to tour.

Works in Progress

The slot is intended for creatives who have a big creative idea and need a partner. Such creatives are encouraged to join PACE for pitch sessions and they will have up to 10 minutes to pitch ideas and concepts at an early stage of development to an audience of arts programmers, producers and creative directors.

Cost and funding

There is no fee to participate in the showcase. Artists will be compensated with technical support, a venue and access to industry delegates. Artists are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and visa expenses. PACE does not provide monetary compensation to artists at this time. However, PACE supplies letters of support for artist-led funding applications.

PACE is a four-day biennial, interdisciplinary arts provocation from the African continent, created in partnership with the Vrystaat Arts Festival. The programme serves as a business-to-business arts showcase and exchange for African artists to network and share their work with national and international arts presenters and producers.
