Call for applications: NSA Johannesburg music teacher

The National School of the Arts (NSA) seeks a full-time music teacher specialising in piano, harmony, history, theory and accompaniment in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The successful candidate will start from 1 September.

All interested candidates should send an email with a cover letter, CV, copy of qualifications at music@arstchool.co.za. All application should be addressed to music HOD Elise van Heerden.

The application deadline is 19 July.

All shortlisted candidates will be required to conduct a harmony lesson and demonstrate their skills in accompaniment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of music degree
  • History of music (Western art music)
  • Theory
  • Harmony
  • Piano
  • Accompaniment

The successful candidate must be available and willing to work outside of regular school hours, when necessary, and to be an enthusiastic participant in the annual cultural programme of the school, which includes the NSA’s Festival of the Arts.

It is imperative that the candidate possess the soft skills necessary to thrive in a specialist arts school environment. These skills include passion, patience, determination, and an ability to motivate and discipline, the school said.
