At the World Trade Centre in Accra, Linda’s superlative performance outshone a strong field of five competitors, whittled down from an initial long-list of hundreds from all over Ghana. Her performance throughout the competition was slick and professional, with her fare of mostly gospel songs showcasing her immense vocal skills.

Linda started her singing career in secondary school, later progressing to singing in a talent hunt organised by her church, which she won. From then on she built her performance portfolio, before applying for the 2015 edition of the Airtel Trace competition, via phone-in, without a huge amount of expectations on her part. Her modest expectations of herself were thankfully not mirrored by the competition’s judges, who clearly recognised her exceptional talent and awarded her the 50 000 GHC (US$13740) prize.

Linda will now represent Ghana at the continental finals, to be held in Kenya on 28 March. Music In Africa extends its sincere congratulations to a worthy champion.
