Ghanaian singer completes Guinness World Record attempt

The five-day event concluded on 29 December at the Akwaaba Village in Accra, with Aduonum singing for 126 hours and 52 minutes.

“This is where I end my journey,” she said after bringing her attempt to an end. “We broke a record and set a new one. It was your love, dedication, motivation, and prayers that gave me the strength to get on my feet every time and keep going for this long. It wouldn’t have been possible without you! Thank you, everyone. Thank you, Ghana!”

The singathon record is currently held by Sunil Waghmare of India, who achieved the feat in Nagpur from 3 to 7 March 2012. To break Waghmare’s record, Aduonum aimed to sing for more than 117 hours and perform over 3 200 Ghanaian songs across various genres.

Aduonum’s effort garnered significant support from various Ghanaians, with famous local popstars such as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Cina Soul, and Efya, among others, showing their encouragement. Respected dignitaries including Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Lebanese ambassador to Ghana, H.E Mr. Maher Kheir, were also in attendance.

Following the attempt, Aduonum and her team will submit evidence to the Guinness World Records, the world’s authority on record-breaking achievements, for evaluation.

Other  African acts who have secured Guinness World Records include Nigeria’s Fela Kuti, Wizkid and Rema. Fela Kuti, the late Afrobeat pioneer, boasts the most studio album recordings (46) and Wizkid achieved the first track to hit one billion streams on Spotify with ‘One Dance’, while Rema also entered the records with ‘Calm Down,’ becoming the first №1 hit on The Official MENA Chart.
