American Jazz saxophonist, Bobby Ricketts, produced a sterling perfomance before a select audience in Lagos, Nigeria as a prelude to the Satchmo Jazz Festival, which he shall headline in May.

Bobby Ricketts in performance

Ricketts, the Boston, USA born alto saxophonist, boasts an intimidating resume of past collaborations, with names like Randy Crawford, Al Jarreau, Melba Moore, Vonda Shepherd and many more. He performed a selection of awe-inspiring tracks from his eponymously-named  forthcoming album, to a small audience of Industry leaders and corporate sponsors of the forthcoming festival. His style, though reminiscent of Jazz great’s like Dave Sanborn and Grover Washington Jr, is still unique for its near tonal perfection and high technical dexterty, in a blend that he has made his very own signature. Also in attendance, supporting Ricketts at the event, was Nigerian premier DJ, Raymond Bola Browne.

The Satchmo Jazz Festival is due to hold between April 30 and May 2, 2015 and shall also feature classical music legend and Kora master, Tunde Jegede and his UK based Jazz ensemble , the Nomadic Mystics, featuring the excellent Cleveland Watkiss. The festival shall also feature Afro-Jazz quartet Ikenga and several otherJazz acts.

Music In Africa is the official media partners to the festival and shall be bringing live reports of the concerts unto these pages. Watch this space.
