The Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (MGMC) invites graduate student composers to submit recently created works not exceeding 10 minutes in length.

The submission deadline is 24 January.

Selected works will be performed during the 2025 MGMC new music concert at the University of Michigan on 18 April.

A percussion trio and a saxophone quartet have been secured to perform the works, or alternatively, composers may bring their own performers for chamber and solo works of other instrumentations. Additionally, through collaboration with the Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments, solo works scored for any historical instrument found in this database can be considered.

Submissions must fall into one of the four following categories:

  • Percussion Trio or subset (up to 3 performers available).
  • Saxophone Quartet or subset (up to 4 performers available).
  • Any solo or chamber work scored for a historical instrument held in the Stearns Collection of Musical Instruments (e.g., harpsichord, duduk, sheng; acceptance of piece may be dependent on availability of Stearns performers).
  • Any solo or chamber work, so long as the composer can provide their own performer(s).

Submission guidelines:

  • Submissions should be submitted via this Google form before 24 January.
  • Composers will be required to provide: a name, affiliation & degree programme, title of work, duration, instrumentation, and performers’ names.
  • Anonymised scores must be provided via a link to a file sharing service (google drive, drop box, etc.). Please double check to make sure sharing permissions are set to “Anyone with the link can view.”
  • Anonymised Recordings (live, or MIDI reductions) are strongly encouraged and should also be provided via a file sharing link. Please double check to make sure sharing permissions are set to “Anyone with the link can view.”
  • All submitted materials should include the title of the piece but exclude the applicant’s name or any other identifying features.
