South African arts professional Karabo Masemola will launch a PR and entertainment company at Bannister Hotel in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on 31 July.
Masemola, a 23-year-old dramatic arts, musical theatre and arts management graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand, says the company, The Share Button (TSB), seeks to support and showcase local artists.
In the lead up to TSB’s launch, Masemola has partnered with local media companies such as Hip Hop on the Grind (Massiv Metro), Alex FM, Zkhiphani, 94 Records and Darling Yo Entertainment as well as events management company Mohlakanyo. The event will also feature performances from artists including DJ Zan-D (YFM), Lolli Native (Emtee Records), DOX and Nozinator, among others.
“What inspired me to launch this company was the lack of opportunities that exist for upcoming artists and creatives holistically, allowing them to come together in groups, meet and work with those that are established,” Masemola told Music In Africa. “The company will offer networking spaces and a knowledge hub via a talk show on YouTube called The Share Button with Karabo Masemola. The message that we are sending is one of support for the arts and creatives seeking to have their work seen and appreciated.”
TSB will promote collaborations between upcoming and established artists “through interviews on its talk show, hosting and coordinating events, and sharing the work of artists and creatives through its PR services,” she said.
Additionally, the company will accommodate artists from other disciplines, including videographers, photographers, poets, and actors.
“The spaces created by TSB allow for these creatives to come together and create their content, thus collaborating more and growing their brands. We would appreciate the public’s support through interacting and engaging with us. The next biggest stars could be found within the community, so we would like to share their work as well,” Masemola said.
