South African music producer Dr Sipho Sithole is launching a virtual performance platform for musicians on International Jazz Day.
WatchaTV will see artists sharing a 50-50 revenue split with the channel. The streaming platform enables artists and content creators to generate income from their live streams.
Jazz artists who will perform on WatchaTV Virtual Stage include Bokani Dyer, Nduduzo Makhathini, Tutu Puoane and Mandisi Dyantyis.
To view WatchaTV’s performances, fans can log in here. Events will start broadcasting from 7pm.
“Artists will not have to pay anything to have their content or shows streamed, as the platform is offered for free to the creatives,” Sithole said. “More exciting is the ability for viewers to access a live stream using their airtime, over and above other payment methods.
“Any initiative that puts more money into the pockets of creatives is one that I would support and be part of. The WatchaTV philosophy sounded very philanthropic to me, and I am glad to be in partnership with people who share the same values as me.”
WatchaTV partner Anthony Poplett said: “We are happy to have someone of Dr Sithole’s calibre at WatchaTV. He brings tremendous knowledge of the industry and moreover he knows the challenges of the artists. WatchaTV has been created for artists to present and advance their craft whilst earning an income.”
