Danish-Ghanaian band Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo have returned to the spotlight with the release of a vibrant new single titled ‘Rewind’.
The upbeat track marks the group’s comeback to the European music scene with fresh material and an extensive summer tour.
Blending sunny grooves of highlife, soul, and a touch of disco, ‘Rewind’ brings together legendary Ghanaian musician Kwame Yeboah (of Kwashibu Area Band) as songwriter, arranger and choir contributor, alongside Nsoroma, vocalist from Ghana’s celebrated highlife band Santrofi.
Lyrically, the song reflects on passion and the ways it can fade in the face of material pursuits. It serves as a reflective call to action, encouraging listeners to “rewind” and rediscover what truly brings them joy.
The single launches a packed touring schedule for the band, with over 30 concerts confirmed across nine countries this summer. Known for their energetic and genre-defying live performances, Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo fuse intoxicating reggae rhythms with soulful highlife and Afrobeat influences, delivering powerful shows with a nine-piece ensemble and dynamic horn section.
The collaborative project made waves in 2022 with the release of the album Anyankofo, recorded in Ghana and featuring icons such as Pat Thomas, Kwame Yeboah, and Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni. The album was met with critical acclaim and supported by an extensive tour across Ghana and Europe, including standout performances at major festivals such as Bout du Monde in France and Reggae Jam in Germany.
With ‘Rewind’ as the first release from their latest recording sessions in Ghana during the spring of 2024, the band continues to deepen its musical partnerships. The new material reflects their mission to bridge cultures and genres, uniting musicians from diverse backgrounds through a shared passion for rhythm and storytelling.
In collaboration with Yeboah and prominent players from the bands of Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor, Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo have infused their reggae roots with the heartbeat of Ghanaian highlife, crafting a unique sound that is both rooted and innovative.
Fans can expect more releases in the coming months as the band takes to stages across Europe, promising unforgettable live experiences and anthems for the summer.
