DJ Black named Ghana’s best for fourth straight year

The awards, which are given to honour DJs from the country, have been held since 2011. According to the organisers, the awards give recognition, as it “highlights contribution Ghana DJs have made to the music distribution & promotion by playing on radio, endorsing and putting songs out to be enjoyed by the masses.”

While it is typically an award for Ghanaian DJs, it has a category recognising work by other nationalities in the International DJ category. This year, Nigeria’s DJ Jimmy Jatt won the category.

DJ Black, coming into the ceremony with five nominations, carried on his dominance by winning two awards, including the most coveted one, Best DJ of the Year. The win made it the fourth consecutive edition of the award ceremony in which the DJ has left with the big prize. His second award, Best Male Radio DJ, was also one he retained from last year’s edition.

After the awards DJ Black thanked his fans on social media, leaving a short message on Facebook: “Biggup #teamdjblack. You voted and we made it. I appreciate you. We keep on working hard. To God be the glory.”

Other winners include DJ Agyemang who won for Best Gospel DJ and DJ Azonto who won the Best Hiplife DJ category. Singer Shatta Wale won the DJ Song of the Year for ‘Kakai’.
