Ghana’s Fuse ODG records third straight MOBO win

The 2015 edition of Music of Black Origin Awards, popularly called the MOBO Awards, were held on 4 November in the UK. Of particular importance to African artists was the Best African category. Nominees in the category included two-time winner Fuse ODG, one-time winner Wizkid and AKA, Davido, Shatta Wale, Patoranking and Yemi Alade.

In the end the two-time winner triumphed once more, taking Fuse ODG’s tally to three nods at the MOBO awards.

Fuse ODG, who is UK-based, collected the first of his three MOBO awards back in 2013, the start of his consecutive wins at the award ceremony. With the outcome of the 2015 edition, the last time anyone not named Fuse ODG won the award was in 2012 and it was Nigerian MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) Evolution award winner D’Banj.

Fuse ODG’s latest win meant 2011 winner Wizkid, Davido and other African artists left the First Direct Arena venue of the awards empty handed.

With Fuse ODG about to embark on a tour of the UK in a few weeks, the MOBO award has come at the right time as there’s a chance audiences will respond to the accolade. At the event Wizkid collaborator Skepta, who is of Nigerian descent, took the Best Song award for his song ‘Shutdown’.
