WOMEX announces exciting film programme

WOMEX Film Curator, Luca Jacob, explained: “WOMEX is not a film festival as such but rather the next step, enabling filmmakers to expand their audience and to get closer to those directly engaged with the film’s subject matter: WOMEX’s community of music professionals.

“We are thrilled to offer this film programme to our delegates and the public and we would be even more thrilled to see new collaborations come out of this.” 

Among the films that WOMEX will present are Johanna Schwartz’s They Will Have To Kill Us First, featuring Malian musicians as they fight for their right to sing.

The programme also includes an unreleased series of documentaries by Vincent Moon, who took off to travel around the world – breaking with the usual formats of music and the film business.

Directors, producers and representatives have been invited to Budapest to lead open discussions after the screenings of their films. These include Rikki Stein, Fela Kuti’s longtime manager, who will be present for the screening of Finding Fela by Alex Gibney.
