Nigerian musician 2face Idibia (also called 2Baba) will on 18 September turn 40. A concert commemorating his birthday will be held two days later on 20 September.
The concert, tagged ‘Fortyfied’, follows a landmark event in 2014 when 2face celebrated ten years of the release of his debut solo album, Face 2 Face. That album got the Nigerian pop scene going and its success inspired younger artists to take the plunge into the music industry. 2face’s professional success has extended to his personal life as he tied the knot with girlfriend Annie Macaulay, a model and actress featured in his first video, ‘African Queen’.
To celebrate his life and career at 40, a selection of artists will be performing. They include musicians he has recorded with in the past and others: Wizkid, Sound Sultan, Timaya, Wande Coal, Seyi Shay, Omawumi, Patoranking, 9ice and Burna Boy. Also joining the line-up are highlife maestro Dr Victor Olaiya and 2face’s Hennessy Artistry successor Vector. Former bandmate Blackface, from 2face’s defunct group Plantashun Boiz, will perform as well.
The prestigious Eko Hotel Convention Centre serves as venue for the event. Nigerian comedian Basketmouth hosts the event.
