Call for applications: Hip Hop Boot Camp in Uganda

Hip hop artists in Uganda can now apply for the 2019 Hip Hop Boot Camp Training programme, which will run from 18 to 31 July at Lunkulu Island in Mukono, Uganda. The programme has been organised by Bayimba Foundation and Africalia.

The deadline for applications for the Hip Hop Boot Camp is 30 June 2019.

Successful applicants will be taken through a two-week residential training programme aimed at introducing artists to new arts disciplines, developing their artistic skills and promoting original art productions.

“This training was started to provide first-hand skills training and create opportunities for recording, performances and employment for youths or young rappers in Uganda,” the official press release reads.

The training will focus on:

  • Songwriting creative process
  • Music management
  • Body percussion
  • Live performance and studio prep
  • Financial literacy
  • Profile Writing
  • Impact of internet and social media on performance art
  • Album recording sessions
  • Embrace and create performance platforms
  • Rap ciphers
  • Personal development
  • A lecture on hip hop elements and the UG Hip Hop Awards  

The deadline for applications is 30 June 2019 and female hip hop artists are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

To apply, the participant must:

  • Be a rapper
  • Be Ugandan
  • Be aged between 15 to 25 years

Requirements

Interested participants are required to fill out and submit the application form, as well as the following supporting documents:

  • A profile/short biography (max 800 words) with two recent pictures that will be used for publicity
  • A motivational letter for your participation in the training (max 500 words)
  • Two samples of your work (MP3 songs)
  • For participants under 20 years old, a parents’ permission letter to participate in the training

Kindly note that the training will cover local transport costs, meals and accommodation. Anything else not covered by the training will have to be paid for by participants themselves.
